How to Boost Your Self-Confidence
Self-Confidence can feel like a tricky beast.
It is in fact, a journey. You begin life without self-doubt. It’s only as you get older that you’re taught what self-doubt is and that you should have it.
We spend our earliest childhood years blissfully unaware of self-doubt’s existence.
Feeling confident in our choices and that we are the only important thing in the world. Then around age 4 you learn that the world is much bigger than you. When you start school that’s when you learn the true nature of self-acceptance, that it’s something that others can take away from you. When we’re teased, ridiculed, or shown up by someone else, we doubt ourselves.
Your exact level of self-doubt depends on your unique journey. The good news is that wherever you’re at, you’re not stuck there.
You can increase your self-confidence, simply by observing your life. Which might feel big, so let me break that down for you.
How to observe your life to increase your self-confindence:
Notice your breath
Put one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly,
Feel your breath moving in and out.
Get curious, are both of your hands moving everytime you breathe?
If not, imagine a balloon inside your chest and another one inside your low belly, close your eyes and breathe into your balloons. It can help to pick a color for each balloon.
Breathe for 1 to 3 minutes, noticing your breath as it moves in and out
Feel into your body
Press your feet into the floor
Soften your shoulders away from your ears
Notice any places in your body that feel tight or uncomfortable, send your inhale breaths there by thinking about those parts of your body
Feel the change (it might be really subtle) as you breathe into those tight areas, you’ll likely feel a loosening or a tingling sensation.
Write down any words, thoughts, or pictures that come to mind while you’re noticing your breath and feeling into your body
Use paper and pen as that’s a better medium to connect to your subconscious (if you type them, they won’t be as powerful and you might not experience any change)
Your journey is unique to you.
