What’s Slow Start vs. Quick Start?
I'm what you call a slow start human, rather than a quick start.
I tend to over plan, think things through, and take a looooong time to finish things. This goes back to my high school days on the swim team. I always wanted to swim the longest distance possible, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with sprints. I'm happiest when I get to set my pace and then give that extra push at the end to cross the finish line because I've conserved my energy and made good choices along the way.
Finding the pace that works for you means that you don't deplete yourself.
You have enough energy to do the things you want to do.
How do we find that balance? We live in a hustle culture that tells us it's wrong to slow down, that we need to help others before we help ourselves, and that burnout is just a part of normal life. That it isn't healthy.
Finding your pace starts with asking a question and inviting your intuition to get a little bit louder.
Then you can hear when you're doing the things that work really well for you and when you're pushing yourself beyond your limits.
So how do we invite our intuition to get louder? Well, journaling is a great place to start.
When you journal by putting pen to paper you connect to your subconscious. You move past the logical and reactive reptilian part of your brain so that you can hear the true inner wisdom that lives inside you.
And if you don't believe me that you have inner wisdom, let me reassure you that you do.
Part of the downside of our hustle-masciline-designed culture is that it emphasizes ignoring your inner wisdom.
That means it’s super common to not be connected to your inner wisdom. Honestly, that sucks.
When you are connected to your inner wisdom it’s easier to trust yourself and to ignore the opinions of others.
If you want to connect to your inner wisdom, then journaling is a great place to start.
