Are My Words Important?
I used to assume that everyone around me knew more than me.
Most people assumed I was quiet and shy. Really though I was just silently bowing to their superior knowledge. I didn’t believe that my words were important enough to say out loud.
But sometimes someone would say something that I knew was wrong, and I wouldn't speak up, instead I would stew for hours, days, weeks. Fantasizing about all of the different ways that I could have told them they were wrong.
What I didn't realize is that, the real reason I didn't speak up or share my knowledge is because I didn't value my knowledge as important.
I believed that everyone else's words were more important than mine.
Your thoughts, your words, they matter too. You are important in your own unique way and if anyone has ever tried to tell you that you’re too much, too quiet, too loud, too whatever, please know that was their fear talking, not yours.
You are important just as you are.
When someone offers to help you, what does it feel like?
You might experience shame because you think that they think that you’re not capable enough. You might experience fear that if they help they’ll do it wrong.
You might also experience joy because you’re so freakin tired and you don’t know how to ask for help so when someone offers help it’s like the universe lifting you back up from the place you’ve fallen. Or it might be a mixture of all of those feelings at once.
Through my personal growth journey I discovered my words DO matter.
One of my mentors recommended that I do a weekly Facebook live to share my quotes and stories each week.
I was so scared and nervous to put myself out there, but I did it anyway. I knew I needed to try something different.
It wasn’t easy. And yet, every time I started to doubt that my words mattered and thought that no one was watching my videos, the most amazing thing happened! Someone out of the blue would message me or tell me to my face how much they appreciate me and my Facebook lives, how they felt inspired and how my words resonated with them.
Each time someone shared their appreciation they were telling my subconscious, “your words matter, your truth matters” and each time I heard it I was surprised, until finally I started to believe it.
Your words matter.
You’re an important human.
