What Do You Call it When the Unknown Feels Familiar?
Back in high school I did the college tour thing with my mom. The first place we visited was Cal Poly in Southern California and the whole time we were on campus I felt out of place, like I did not belong. This irky-uncomfortable feeling. It wasn’t logical and I couldn’t shake it.
The next day we visited UC Santa Barbara and the second I stepped out of the car I was like oh I know this place and I belong here (except I’d never been there before).
My mom wanted to find the visitor center. I saw this painted line on the ground and turned to my mom saying, we just need to follow this line to the visitors center. Mind you there was no sign saying that this line leads you to the visitor center. I simply knew that that was were we needed to go. It was kinda wild.
There's no way I could have known and yet I was totally right, that painted line led us directly to the visitor center.
It felt like I was home and that I belonged. That’s not a sensation I experience in very many places. My mind is usually running a million miles a minute trying to figure out the rules for what’s socially correct for the situation. But on that visit it was like all of that inner chatter faded away, I’d found my place and it felt good!
After our campus tour my mom and I stopped at a coffee cart for snack and the guy asked me for my ID card because he thought I already went there!! I was a high school student wearing my wildest tie dyed shirts (because if I wasn’t wearing a flannel, I was wearing tie dye back then) and this dude thought I was already a student here. That moment clinched it for me, I knew that I was going to go to UC Santa Barbara.
And I did, and that’s where I meant my husband, Nathan. That’s another story for another email (or two).

You have wisdom inside you. Some call it intuition, inner wisdom, or the voice in your head.
When you tap into your inner wisdom magical things happen.
You can find your new home or best friend. You can realize that you’re ready for a change or that you’re perfectly happy just as you are.
Those moments that you can’t quite explain, when the coincidences pile up, luck just seems to be on your side, or you just know things that you wouldn’t otherwise know. That’s when your inner wisdom is speaking.
Notice those moments, they can go by in a blip, and you might miss them if you’re not paying attention.
When have you felt your inner wisdom nudging you towards something?
P.S. I saved 2 more spots in the program Boundaries & Balance: Setting Non-Negotialbes

I want something different for next year. I’m not one for setting resolutions, I gave up on them years ago, I don’t really see the point of trying to make a change that won’t stick.
