I Lost My Fork During Scattergories

Last Sunday I got home at 2:30pm. I was tired, hungry, hadn’t had lunch, and I’d been gone all morning.

I’d barely been home for 5 minutes when my teenager asked if we could all play a game. I love playing games, so even though I was ridiculously tired, I wanted to spend time with my kid and husband and we get ridiculous when we play games together! I said yes as long as I could have enough time to warm up some lunch.

I made my favorite quick salad, microwaved some delicious leftover chicken and potatoes, and sat down at the table with my family.

The game was Scattergories, which really should be called shenanigans. It’s where you roll a die with letters on it and are given 10 prompts that have to start with the letter you roll. Sometimes our answers get a little toooo creative and then we have to vote if they count.

In the midst of our game I looked at my chicken & potato bowl and said, “where is my fork?! ” It had vanished into thin air!

Nathan reached out and touched the fork sitting in my salad bowl and said, “do you mean this fork?” From his angle, it looked like I was looking directly at my fork in my salad bowl and he was very very very confused.

I looked to where he was pointing and said, “oh yeah, I forgot that I moved it over to my salad.” And then I laughed hysterically tears streamed down my face, I was laughing so hard.

“Laughter is an instant vacation.” - Milton Berle

Yep, I meant that fork. I have this habit of eating a bit of my main and then eating a bit of my salad and going back and forth and I usually use one fork. My brain was so tired that when I wanted more chicken and potatoes and saw that my fork wasn’t in the bowl I thought it had vanished instead of noticing that it was sitting in my salad bowl!

One of the things I love most about my family is our ability to laugh together (instead of at each other). That’s the thing that binds us most. It’s the laughter that brings us together, makes the day feel brighter, and that the stressful stuff can fade away.

Journaling Prompt: Who have you laughed with most recently?

This week's favorite thing: The Thoughtful Journaling Method

I created the Thoughtful Journaling Method when I found that SO MANY PEOPLE have hang ups around journaling. It’s this amazing tool, that’s super affordable and easy to do, and yet there are so many reasons (aka excuses) that stop you from taking a few minutes out of your day to feel better.

It’s my favorite thing because I’ve witnessed transformation after transformation in a teeny tiny amount of time. I’ve watched humans that hated journaling change their tune and folks that have wanted to journal for freakin-ever start a new practice AND stick with it!!

It’s easy, it’s rewarding, and it’s affordable!

And drumroll please…..

I’m teaching you how to do The Thoughtful Journaling Method on Tuesday Feb 13th at Sway West Berkeley!
