The 4 Biggest Myths About Journaling

I’m debunking the 4 BIGGEST MYTHS ABOUT JOURNALING, right now...

Myth #1 You need at least 20 minutes to journal properly

Nope! You don’t need that much time. How much time do you need? Well that depends… on how much time you have.

In the Thoughtful Journaling Process, you get to experience journaling in the amount of time that you have available, which can be as little as 5 minutes. Don’t believe me? (I’d be skeptical too if I hadn’t experienced it myself)

Here’s what Wiggles experienced during the Thoughtful Journaling Workshop:

“I just wrapped up Kerstin's Thoughtful Journaling Workshop right now and it helped me unblock a couple of gnarly issues that were consuming my mental real estate for weeks/months...in only 8 minutes. Super grateful for her offering” - Wiggles

Eight minutes was all that Wiggles needed to work through some gnarly issues that had been on her mind for months!! 8 minutes, that was all she needed.

Part of why we think we need at least 20 minutes to journal is because we spend the first 10 minutes figuring out what you’re going to write about, then the next 3 minutes judging our handwriting, and then in the last 7 minutes we finally get into the good stuff.

With the Thoughtful Journaling Process you get to bypass those 13 minutes of busy work at the beginning, so you can get deep, figure your sh*t out, and then move on to your day feeling both clearer and lighter.

You can totally journal in a short amount of time. Read the Thoughtful Journaling Guide to learn how.

Myth #2: I hate journaling

You might think that you hate journaling, it’s a common belief. The truth is though it’s not the journaling that you hate, there’s other stuff involved and Elizabeth explains it so well here:

“I seriously hated journaling before, and Kerstin single-handedly changed that!

Kerstin’s Thoughtful Journaling workshop helped me to see that I didn’t actually hate journaling, I just intensely disliked the anxiety it used to cause me.

Over the course of her workshop, I was able to identify this and using tools that Kerstin shared, I was able to completely change how I think about and use journaling. Journaling has become an incredibly useful tool in my business and life, and is now an activity that I genuinely enjoy. 🥰 Thank you, Kerstin!!” -Elizabeth

For Elizabeith it was the anxiety that journaling caused her that made her think she hated journaling. When you can journal in a way that feels safe, grounding, and like someone is holding your hand through the process, then you can find joy, depth, and peace.

Myth #3 I just keep circling the same topics

This is one that plagued me and stopped me from journaling for years. I’d just keep writing about the same thing, not finding closure, and just feeling more frustrated. I didn’t like that feeling at all. Taga had a similar experience:

“I went through a phase in my journaling where I was bringing up stuff that I kept circling in for almost two pages, so I stopped journaling all together. And then when I did Kerstin’s workshop I was like 'Wow! I can go deep, but I can also move through that quickly. That was the difference for me. I think I cried during your class. “It was like oh my gosh this is amazing! How did that happen in a journaling workshop?!’” - Taga

You can experience depth in a short amount of time too, the Thoughtful Journaling Guide is there to guide you through.

Myth #4 Journaling is hard

Journaling can totally feel hard, especially when you don’t know what to write, you’re using prompts that don’t make sense to you, or you feel lost on the page.

Journaling doesn’t have to be hard. It can be rewarding, transformative, and delightful.

When you have a journal and a pen that you love, it makes it easier to connect to the page.

When you give yourself permission to let your thoughts flow and to write about the noisiest thoughts in your head, you get clear faster. You can find clarity and feel really really good.

In my program Ditch Your Doubts I help you find that clarity.

We use journaling in a thoughtful way, to help you break through your limiting beliefs, the gnarly thoughts on repeat in your head, and the anxiety that’s keeping you stuck.

When you join Ditch Your Doubts you are a part of a small and supportive group.

I find group journaling is even more transformative than journaling solo. It’s my favorite way to teach journaling.
