How I Reset my Vertigo
I woke up with vertigo…again.
It wasn’t too bad, just mild dizziness, but that’s enough to affect my day.
I’ve been doing that thing where I internalize my stress and push myself to keep going even when my body is craving rest. That’s why I woke up with vertigo today.
It was the only way for my body to get my attention. To tell me to stop shoving all of my stress in to my left shoulder (because that’s where I put my stress, there’s a knot that’s been there for years, it was getting better and yesterday I realized I’d let it get worse).
“Surrender to what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be.”
- Sonia Ricotti
Our bodies are so smart, they tell us helpful things all the time, yet we tend to ignore it, especially when we have a deadline, responsibilities to our families, or just too much to do.
When you ignore the subtle hints of tightness in your shoulders or dragging ass to get out of bed, that’s when your body starts to be less subtle, think headaches, back aches, fatigue, frustration at every little thing. Those are the signs that your brain and body want you to take a pause, a reset.
It doesn’t mean that you need to drop everything and go check into a spa because who has time for that?!
It means taking a nap, a walk in nature, or a deep conversation with your bestie.
Take the time to nourish yourself with the things that recharge you, restart you, and fire you back up. They don’t need to take all day. Think 15 minutes to an hour.
For me, I took a glorious nap. There were a good 20 minutes at the start where I had to wiggle and stretch before I could settle, then there was the blissful feeling of unconsciousness setting in. I felt SO MUCH BETTER.
Instead of vertigo I just felt a little tired and achy. That’s a good first step towards releasing my stress.
You don’t have to change from one extreme to the other, actually please don’t, that can be just as upsetting to your system as doing nothing at all.
Take small steps to improve your mood and well being. Treat yourself to a tastier lunch (notice I didn’t say healthier, I said tastier because sometimes indulgence in a scoop of ice cream is just the thing to have you making a contented sign and your shoulders melting down your back). Take a 20 minute nap. Read a book just for fun. Check out the new tea house by your work. Listen to your favorite album from your 20s.

P.S. Sending you rest, rejuvenation, and energy. 💕
I want something different for next year. I’m not one for setting resolutions, I gave up on them years ago, I don’t really see the point of trying to make a change that won’t stick.
